Planning for the Future
|
Are you prepared for the future? As we all know lifestyles and environments around us are constantly changes. We, ourselves and the families that we are involved with are always changing and growing older. As time goes on in our life’s, planning for the future is a constant area that must to addressed. When people fail to plan, others (namely the Government) steps in and tell you what to do. In another way to look at failing to plan, YOU GIVE UP YOUR FREEDOMS!
Long Term Care (LTC) is not an easy subject to talk about. Nobody wants to think that they – or someone they love – might need it one day. LTC needs to be involved in any future asset protection planning for the future.
More than half of all women and a third of all men who survive to age 65 are expected to spend time in nursing home before the time come of their passing. The average cost of a nursing home stay is almost $56,000 a year and can run much higher in major metropolitans areas. What’s more, the projected need for LTC assistance (year 2000 to 2020) indicated an expected 42% increase from 5 million to 7.4 million people.
We understand that these stats are difficult to think about but they are very reality figures. We have never met anyone that purposely gives up their freedom. Planning for the future is on-going process.
Most people traditionally have received long term care at home, usually from a family member. Today, there’s often no one nearby to help out – a result of high divorce rates, smaller families, and more mobility.
All active adults need to start planning for the future. Can you provide for yourself and/or a family member if a major medical situation suddenly hits you between the eyes? Remember, it is not only emotional and physical but also financially stressful and life changing. In other words, we all are at risk of a major life changing situation in our fast pace lifestyle.
Unless you can afford to use your life savings to pay for long term care, what is your alternative? Remember, If we do some planning, we have more options. If we don’t plan, others control us.
